May 16th News

Dear Parents,

Field day was a big success.  Thanks to all those parents who helped!  I'm sure your children have been keeping you up to date about what we're doing in school.  We are studying animals!  They have all learned so much, as this is a topic that interests everyone.

We have a fun week planned for the last week of school.  We will continue with our reading centers up until next Friday.  Wednesday afternoon, we will have "game day".  This is a day where the children can bring in a board game from home to play with classmates.  It's best if the game isn't too complicated and doesn't take a long time to finish.  We will send the games back home Wednesday afternoon.  We plan on meeting for the last time with our book buddies on Friday, the last day of school.  We would like to make a friendship mix as a snack to share with them.  Would you please send in a small bag of something like goldfish, cereal, dried fruit, M & M's, etc.?

We look forward to seeing all of you Monday morning at 8:15 for our author's tea!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Diana Babb and Linda Thompson

April 28th News

Dear Parents,

We want to go give you a heads up for the date of our author's tea so that you can mark your calendars.  We will have our tea on May 19th from 8:15-9 in the morning.  We hope everyone will be able to join us!  Also, field day for first grade is May 14th from 9-11.  We still could use some volunteers to help on that day.

The children are very excited about our field trip to the zoo this Thursday, May 1st.  Please try and have your children at school on time.  They will be eating a snack before we leave, so don't forget to send in something.  The children are encouraged to wear their Tritt t-shirts.

This is the last week for the children to check out books in the media center. All students books are due back by Monday, May 5th.  Please be sure to check over your child's homework nightly.  We still have four weeks of school left!

Have a great week!

April 15th News

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a nice spring breaK!  We will be working very hard this week reviewing for the CRCT, which begins next Wednesday.  Please make sure you go over the homework packets with your children, as we will not be checking them.  Also, if your child hasn't been practicing online, please make sure he/she does this.

We are having a bit of an issue with some children going to "Pencils and Stuff" every day that they are open.  We don't know whether or not you know this...so in the future, please send in a note giving your child permission to go.

Have a great week!

March 24th News

Dear Parents,

This week is disabilities awareness week.  The students will be participating in several activities to help them develop empathy toward those with disabilities.  We attended an assembly this morning where children learned about several different types of disabilities.  Tomorrrow the whole school will be watching a short video, and on Wednesday, we have someone from the Library for the Blind coming to visit our classroom.

The students will continue to learn about weather this week.  In math, we are rounding to the closest ten, measuring and doing word problems using double digit numbers (with no regrouping).  In language arts, we are reviewing ABC order and sequencing skills.  We will start reviewing for the upcoming CRCT test next week.

Please let us know if you are willing to help Lisa Mallis with Tiger Publishing.  This is where the children write their own stories which are actually typed and bound into hard cover books by parent volunteers.  Upon completion, we will have an "Author's Tea" during the month of May so that you can enjoy your child's book and the books of his/her classmates.

Have a great week!

March 10th News

Dear Parents,

The first graders really enjoyed Tritt Tigertown.  We hope they told you all about their fun day on Friday.  They were exhausted at the end of the day!!  We hope all of you had a great weekend!

The students are learning dictionary skills this week.  In addition, they will be writing about the different seasons.  In math, we will continue working with money.  Also, they will be learning to round numbers to the closest ten, and adding three single digit numbers.  ( 3+7+4=?)  On Wednesday, the students will be taking the STAR reading test.  We will send the results in with the upcoming report cards.

If you haven't sent in your child's permission slip for the field trip to the Fox, please do so soon!  Have a great week!

February 20th News

Dear Parents,

We have a busy short week planned in first grade!  As you know, the children will be bringing in their patriotic projects/writing tomorrow.  They will visit all of the other classes to look at the symbols.  They will also be writing about symbols other than their own.  This week the students will be learning about Abe Lincoln.  We are also studying characters and setting.  In addition, they are learning about goods and services.

We are not having our regular centers this week, since we only have two days in the classroom.  (Friday is Arts in Education Day at Tritt.)  We will not be sending home weekly folders this week.  We will contact you on an individual basis if your child had any issues during the week.  If you don't hear from us, assume that "no news is good news"!  One other thing...please make sure your child brings in a healthy snack...no cookies, candy, etc.  Have a great week!!

Dear Parents,

We just wanted to remind you that the USA Projects (and writing that goes along with it) are due Thursday, February 21st.  Students will have a two day week in the classroom, as Monday and Tuesday are holidays for them, and Friday is Arts in Education Day.  We will go to the library on Thursday, instead of Friday next week.  Have a great holiday weekend!

February 1st News

Dear Parents,

We have a busy February planned!  The students will be learning about dental health next week.  We will be working on reading charts and calendars, counting money and double digit addition/subtraction in math.  In science, students are learning about light sources.

Look for a permission slip to come to come home on Monday.  We are going to the Fox on March 31st.  We realize it's kind of early to be sending home permission slips, but the sooner, the better!

We are also starting something new at Tritt for first graders.  We will be having "Tritt TIgertown" on Friday, March 7th.  Over the next month, students will be earning money to spend at Tigertown. We will be asking for some parent volunteers to come in and help on this day.  We will also be asking for donations of baked goods, small prizes, art supplies, etc.  The purpose of Tigertown will be to teach children more about counting money, especially "fair trades".  Students will earn money through good behavior, turning in homework on time, taking at least one AR test per week, returning library books on time, completing their center work on time, keeping their desks clean, being helpful to others, etc.  Ask your child how much money he/she earned during the weeks to come!

Have a great weekend!
