Weekly Updates - November 12, 2009

Dear Parents-

Thank you so much for the nice birthday lunch and to Mrs. Clark for delivering it! The kids also made me some really sweet cards. This class is so wonderful! Thank you all so much!

Also, yesterday a flyer went home regarding the foundation and joining it if you haven't done so already. The Tritt Tiger Foundation is an unbelievable support to our entire school community. The ActivBoards, Science and computer lab are all funded by TTF. Please consider supporting it. We use the ActivBoards daily and so do your children. I can't imagine a classroom without one and there still are several classes at Tritt who are waiting on one. Thank you for your support!

Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Miceli who is heading up the can food drive. Please send any donations in prior to Thanksgiving break. Thank you for your support!

Don't forget about "Stockings for Seniors" on December 2nd. We would love for you to join us!

We will go to the library tomorrow:) Send in any old books so the kids can check out another one if they need a new one.

Have a great weekend...time to rake the leaves!

Weekly Updates November 5, 2009

Dear Parents,

Yes, you heard right! Tomorrow is "electronics/ board game" day. The kids earned all of the marbles and they were able to vote on a class party, so tomorrow afternoon we will be having fun with games:) We told the kids to bring in games that would fit in their bookbags and to make sure that they keep them safely tucked away until the afternoon.

Also, please mark on your calendars, Wednesday December 2nd. Our class is going to "give back" during the month of December. On December 2nd at 4:00 pm we are all going to meet at the Sunrise Senior Living Center at 1551 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta. (right down the street on Johnson Ferry by the new super Target) We are going to sing some Christmas songs to the seniors and then we are going to give them our stockings. Now about the stockings, please have your child create a stocking to give to the senior. Here are the specifics:

1. Go to the store and buy a pair of socks. Girls buy women socks, Boys buy men socks.

2. Keep one sock as the "stocking" and roll up the other sock and put in the toe of the sock, so they will have a pair.

3. Fill the stocking with things that older people like such as chap stick, lotion, playing cards,etc..be creative.

4. Close off the stocking with ribbon to make the stocking look festive.

We have about 65-70 stockings that we need to give out to the seniors so if everyone could donate one that would be great. We would love for you to join us at Sunrise on the 2nd. Since we are doing this after school hours we will need for your to accompany your child or be the chaperone for a car load of kids that you bring. You may also bring siblings or any other people that would like to help to brighten the day of a generation that has so much to give back to us with their infinite wisdom and priceless stories. Mrs. Gerndt's class may also join us on this day. The more the merrier!

Also as a heads up, the room moms will be sending out info about our 2nd nine week auction and Christmas party on Thursday, December 17 at 1:00. The auction items will be items that the students can buy for family members (not themselves) for Christmas. Please think of unique things that your child can bring in to donate for the auction. (Things you don't need/use anymore or if you changed your decor) The room moms will corrdinate a wrapping station and an ice cream bar, so please look for a letter soon asking for items to donate to make our auction/ wrapping/ice cream stations a success.

I hope this all makes sense. Please email Kendall, me or Mrs. Keesee with questions.

Weekly Updates- October 29, 2009

Dear Parents-

Halloween already! Where has this month gone? If you have any leftover candy, please consider sending it in for our classrrom supply.

We had a great last day for Ms. Newman today. Thank you all so much for the gift card contributions. The kids did their videotapes of their explorers and they were awesome. Ms. Newman filmed them and we all enjoyed viewing our classmates. We did postpone the explorer test until next Wednesday, so we will have more review next week. The study guide will come home tomorrow.

Also, next Tuesday there is no school. It is a teacher workday, so enjoy the day off.

The Sign of the Beaver book is finished and we are watching the movie tomorrow to compare the book vs. the movie.

Spelling test is postponed until Wednesday.

Happy Halloween and have a great weekend!

Weekly Updates - October 22, 2009

Dear Parents-

October is almost over....time flies when we are having fun!

Ms. Newman will be leaving us next Thursday. She has been doing an excellent job teaching the kids our explorer unit. She has been with us since the beginning of the year. We would love to present her with a gift card tree for all of her help. If you would like to join us, please send in a $5.00 gift card to anyplace and we will give her this next Thursday. Please send in the gift cards in a sealed envelope addressed to either Kendall or me. Please have your child sign the giftcard so she will know who gave it to her.

Please support your child with long division. 4 kids have mastered it but the other 20 are struggling. We will get into 4 digit dividends and 2 digit divisors.

In social studies, we will have a test on the explorers next  Friday the 30th. The kids are making their trading cards to help them study. They have their guided notes, the powerpoints on Ms. Newmans website and the links are there as well. The website again is www.msnewman.webs.com

Here are things they will need to know about each explorer.

1. Where they are from...

2. Why they explored?

3.Where they explored?

4.Biggest accomplishments/obstacles they faced

5. The relationships with the native americans...good or bad

I hope this helps.

We will also have a spelling test on Tuesday, like normal. We are on "sort 11" for Spelling.

Have a great weekend...stay dry...again!

Weekly Updates October 15, 2009

Hi Everone-

Happy Thursday! Today we had our elections for student council and yes, they were pushed up a day. Mrs. Straka needed the names today, so we juggled our schedules and gave the kids an hour to write their speeches in class. We read the speeches and the kids voted for Eleanor and Spencer as our class representatives. Some kids decided not to write their speeches because they decided they didn't want to do it this year. We were very proud of all the children who wrote speeches. They received $200.00 for their extra effort of above and beyond writing.

The report cards come home tomorrow. Please sign the white card that you have received their report card and send the white card back in the manilla envelope. Please do not seal the envelope because we will use these again for the 3rd marking period. You may keep the copy of the report card and the SRI report.

Several papers are coming home today so please take thie opportunity to clean out your childs binder. Remember any "re-do and return" papers, please send back corrected with your signature that you have checked them.

Tomorrow is our practice writing assessment test. Our main one is in the spring. Tomorrow we are focusing on narrative writing. We will evaluate them ourselves using our county rubric and use them as a "move forward" piece to help the kids individually with their writing. Please make sure your child is here on time tomorrow morning. The whole 4th grade is doing this and we all have the same topic.

Have a great weekend,

Weekly Updates October 9, 2009

Welcome to the new blog foremat! We will see how this works!

Today was our Native American Day and the kids learned lots of cool things about the 6 tribes that we are  learning about in 4th grade. We learned about the Inuits, Nez Perce, Seminole, Kwatikuitl, Pawnee and Hopi tribes. We were focusing on the area where they live, their clothing, shelter and food. Each teacher will submit 5 questions from the study guide and we will have our test next Wednesday. Please ask your child to share with you some new found information about these tribes.

Also, today marks the end of the 1st quarter. Report cards will go home next Friday.

Screen on the Green has been cancelled for tomorrow night. It is rescheduled for March.

Ask your child if they received their hamburger or cheeseburger yet from McDonalds. If not, please help them master their division facts for the time test:)

Have a great weekend and stay dry! (again)

Weekly Updates October 2, 2009

Dear Parents-

Thank you for all of your Boosterthon support. The Fun Run was a great time. Please collect the pledges and send in by the 8th.

Also, keep working on division facts. We are starting into long division and we are teaching them "Does McDonalds Sell Cheese Burgers" Each capital letter stands for the math process. D=Divide, M=Multiply, S=Subtract, C=Check, B=Bring down. Kendall and I are giving division time tests daily to help support the long division skills. When they achieve a 90% or higher, the kids will be get either a hamburger or cheeseburger from McDonalds. This will be an incentive for the kids to practice the division facts which in turn supports their long division. The first batch of McDonalds hamburgers will be given out on Tuesday. There are 10 students who will get their hamburger on Tuesday. Thank you for helping with this at home.

The end of the 1st nine weeks is Friday the 9th. We will be having our Native American Day on the 9th. This will be a great learning day for all of the 4th graders. Please make sure your child doesn't miss the 9th unless it is a serious situation.

We will be having our first auction on Thursday the 8th. Please look for an item at home that your child doesn't use or play with anymore. Please make sure that the items are in good shape and would be "wanted" by a classmate. Items can come in starting on Monday. Also, while looking for an auction item if you come across any "treasure box" items, please consider donating them and send them in.

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Weekly Update- September 24, 2009

Dear Parents,

Wow, what a week! We hope that you are all ok from the floods. We have heard many stories of how the flood of Monday affected many of our families here at Tritt. This is a time to truely count our blessings! Perspective is everything!!

It is amazing how much we do in a day. Now, being behind 2 days things are in even a higher gear. We appreciate your homework support each night. Today we will have the spelling test but we will not give any more words until next Tuesday.

The Boosterthon is next Wednesday. So far, we have a pledge for every child except for a few. The kids are very excited when they get their prizes everyday in class. If your child doesn't have a pledge, please consider pledging them before Wednesday of next week. Parents are all welcome to come and join the fun of the Boosterthon. Our time is from 9:15-10:15am.

Pictures are coming home today. Snakes are free for the weekend:) Send me an email if you "want them" :)

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Updates September 10, 2009

Dear Parents-

For a short week, we have been extremely busy. In Math we are working are double digit mutiplication.  Continue working on this at home as we will revisit it many times this year.  In Reading, we started "The Kid Who Ran for President" by Dan Gutman.  We are discussing the narrative elements of setting, plot and characters.  Our spelling test will be Tuesday of next week over Sort 6.  The kids have worked hard on their descriptive essay titles "My Favorite Place".  We focused on ideas and organization while writing and editing these papers.  All of the students started publishing their papers today.  Your student may be bringing theirs home to finish.  Social Studies has been focused this week on regions of the US, physical and political maps.

Our field trip to the new Cobb County Safety Village is tomorrow.  The students will extend their learning of fire safety with engaging, hands-on activities.  Please have your student wear shorts or pants, no dresses or skirts as they will be climbing down ladders, etc.  Also, these children signed up to buy a sack lunch tomorrow: Evan, Nickolas, Eileen, Matt, Campbell, Spencer, Sasha, Morgan, Alex, and Morgan.  If your student isn't listed they should bring a lunch from home.

Please look for a letter from our room moms Susan Keesee and Therese Clark concerning class directory and info.

GO JACKETS AND SPARTANS!
