Welcome to the Tritt Computer Lab

The Tritt Tiger Foundation funds the computer lab manager position through its fundraising efforts throughout the school year.  The computer lab manager is responsible for maintaining the two computer labs, supporting the technology instruction within the labs and assisting grade level teachers with lesson plans to enhance the classroom curriculum.

For each grade level, we try to follow some guidelines to make the most of the student's time in the computer lab.  These guidelines were developed so that students can make progress in the computer lab throughout their time at Tritt and they are prepared to use the technology available in middle and high school.

Each teacher schedules time in the computer lab, usually on a recurring basis.  Often, they come in each week to work on keyboarding, writing projects, Internet research and sometimes just for some fun.  All students are monitored when using the Internet and are required to use child friendly search engines while at school.

(Re)Fresh News from the Computer Lab

Most of you know that we have two computer labs here at Tritt.  One of them is located in the "outback" section of the school, across from the music room.  The other lab is located in the main building on the 100 hall across from Ms. Anderson's PreK classroom.  The main building computer lab has always been called the "old" lab since it had always had the older computers and printers.  Last fall, all of our computersand printers  were refreshed, so we no longer have old computers and printers.  And to make technology even more fresh, the Tritt Tiger Foundation has graciously provided us with a 21st Century Classroom for installation in the "old" lab.

Thanks to the Hibbert family's generous donation, the "old" computer lab has been renamed the Hibbert Computer Lab.  Next time you are wandering the 100 hallway, stop in and see what your donations can do for our children.   Stay tuned for pictures.

Welcome Back!

Happy New Year!  We finished up the last nine week grading period with all first through fifth grade classes taking STAR and SRI.  These reading assessments will be shared with parents during conferences.  These are only a single measure of how well your child can read.

Now that we are heading toward spring, it is time to prepare for the CRCT, which is administered to first through fifth grades only.  Our testing dates are April 23 - May 2.  All parents will be receiving information from the school administration as well as classroom teachers on how the CRCT works here at Tritt.

My responsibilities include the administration of the CRCT Online Assessment System, which is the online practice test.  I will be getting information to the classroom teachers over the next few weeks on how to access this site for each student.  It will be up to the discretion of each teacher how they use this information.  We do practice in the computer labs at school, however some teachers may prefer that the students practice at home.  If this is a hardship for any family, please let your teacher know so that we can make arrangements for students to use the computer lab before school.

Question of the Month

I started a bulletin board called "Question of the Month".  Each month I select a question that is meant to provoke a child to really think about something!  This month the question is "What would you do with a million dollars?"  I have already received some very interesting answers!  All students in all grades can participate.  If your Kindergartener or First Grader wants to dictate an answer to you, please email me with their response.  I will post all answers on the Tritt web site using the child's first name and last initial along with their grade.

Mega Math is a Hit!

With the math curriculum adopted by the state of Georgia came a fun program called Mega Math.  It takes the lessons right out of the students textbooks and brings them to life in games geared toward reinforcing the concepts learned in the classroom.  Every grade level has enjoyed using this program.  Our Kindergarteners love the shape sorting and patterning activities!  The fourth and fifth graders even like doing 2 and 3 digit multiplication, long division, fractions and decimals!  Most kids don't even realize they are practicing their math facts!  Unfortuneately, this program is only available at school, but be assured that your child uses it often!

If you are looking for internet sites to practice math, keyboarding, or learn more about their science units, please visit the Tritt Web Site and click on Web Links and then select the desired grade level.
