4th & 5th Grade Book Club
Fourth and fifth graders, do you love to read? If you said yes then join the 4th & 5th Grade Book Club. We will be reading books from The Georgia Childrens' Book Award Nominees reading list. As you read, write questions related to the books, and when we meet we will discuss the books using these questions. A list of books with summaries can be found at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/hrrb/elementarybooklist.html (The book Ashes is not required at the Elementary level) These books are available in the Tritt media center.
This year you will have a choice of coming on either Tuesday morning or Wednesday afternoon. Our first meeting was Tuesday, October 16th from 7:20 to 7:50 and the same informational meeting was also held on Wednesday, October 17th at 2:30 to 3:00. Here are the remaining meeting dates up until Winter Break:
Attend either the Tuesday morning or Wednesday afternoon meetings below.
Students in the book club will have a chance to participate in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at McEachern High School. If you love to read and compete, then you should definitely consider joining our fabulous team. A school wide competition will be held to help determine who will be on the Reading Bowl Team, but the amount of participation in the book club will also be taken into account. Click on the Powerpoint link to find out more information. Download HRRB Powerpoint. Please contact Mrs. Bates (joanne.bates@cobbk12.org) or Mrs.Hunt (paulahunt93@gmail.com) with any additional questions or expression of interest.

Read to Succeed Book Club
Congratulations to our 10 students who competed in the Cobb County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Saturday, January 21st. I am so proud of all of you for representing Tritt well. Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Oubs, and I are looking forward to continuing the Tritt Read to Succeed Book Club every other Tuesday. The next book club meeting will be February 28th at 7:30 in the media center. Happy Reading!
New Arrival!
We now have a subscription to an online book service. TrueFlix is the only online resource that leverages the award-winning True Books content to help students hone literacy skills, build knowledge of subject-area content, and cultivate 21st Century skills through the inquiry process. You can access TrueFlix by going to http://trueflix.scholastic.com (see Mrs. Bates for the username and password at home). You can also access it by going to the Cobb Virtual Library and going to Tritt's Destiny page. Then do a title search for TrueFlix. Enjoy!
Book Fair Success!
Thank you to everyone who helped make the book fair a huge success. We raised more money for the media center than at any other book fair. Those of you who ordered a book online should be receiving those orders in the next few days. A special thank you to Elmarie Dutoit and Liz Liotta for EVERYTHING! We couldn't have done it without you.
Cobb Virtual Library
Cobb Virtual Library (CVL) provides Cobb students with access to high-quality information resources that are specifically selected for their grade level including the online encyclopedias from World Book, Grolier, Britannica, & Junior Reference Collection. You will find some sites for the primary grades: World Book Kids, Britannica Learning Zone, and PebbleGo. There are also links for news and current events, web searching, and special topics. Access to the resources is provided only to Cobb students, teachers, & parents, so passwords are required for off-campus use. Ask Mrs. Bates or your teacher for the passwords. To access CVL go to http://cvl.cobbk12.org/
What is so great about these resources compared to other resources on the Web? Mrs. Bates loves the fact that students do not have to aimlessly search through hundreds of thousands of worthless (and sometimes inappropriate) Web sites. Ask Mrs. Bates, Download Tritt Media Center Brochure, or visit http://cvl.cobbk12.org/ to find out more.
