4th & 5th Grade Book Club

Fourth and fifth graders, do you love to read? If you said yes then join the 4th & 5th Grade Book Club. We will be reading books from The Georgia Childrens' Book Award Nominees reading list. As you read, write questions related to the books, and when we meet we will discuss the books using these questions. A list of books with summaries can be found at http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/hrrb/elementarybooklist.html (The book Ashes is not required at the Elementary level) These books are available in the Tritt media center.

Our first meeting was Tuesday, October 16th from 7:20 to 7:50 and the same informational meeting was also held on Wednesday, October 17th at 2:30 to 3:00. Here are the remaining meeting dates up until Winter Break:

Come to the Book Fair Luau!

The book fair is coming, the book fair is coming! Come say Aloha at the Book Fair Luau Reading Celebration! Click on the image below to learn more about when  the book fair is open.

Read to Succeed Book Club

Congratulations to our 10 students who competed in the Cobb County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Saturday, January 21st. I am so proud of all of you for representing Tritt well. Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Oubs, and I are looking forward to continuing the Tritt Read to Succeed Book Club every other Tuesday. The next book club meeting will be February 28th at 7:30 in the media center. Happy Reading!

New Arrival!

We now have a subscription to an online book service. TrueFlix is the only online resource that leverages the award-winning True Books content to help students hone literacy skills, build knowledge of subject-area content, and cultivate 21st Century skills through the inquiry process.  You can access TrueFlix by going to http://trueflix.scholastic.com (see Mrs. Bates for the username and password at home). You can also access it by going to the Cobb Virtual Library and going to Tritt's Destiny page. Then do a title search for TrueFlix. Enjoy!

Book Fair Success!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the book fair a huge success. We raised more money for the media center than at any other book fair. Those of you who ordered a book online should be receiving those orders in the next few days. A special thank you to Elmarie Dutoit and Liz Liotta for EVERYTHING! We couldn't have done it without you.

Cobb Virtual Library

Cobb Virtual Library (CVL) provides Cobb students with access to high-quality information resources that are specifically selected for their grade level including the online encyclopedias from World Book, Grolier, Britannica, & Junior Reference Collection.  You will find some sites for the primary grades: World Book Kids, Britannica Learning Zone, and PebbleGo. There are also links for news and current events, web searching, and special topics. Access to the resources is provided only to Cobb students, teachers, & parents, so passwords are required for off-campus use.  Ask Mrs. Bates or your teacher for the passwords. To access CVL go to http://cvl.cobbk12.org/

What is so great about these resources compared to other resources on the Web?  Mrs. Bates loves the fact that students do not have to aimlessly search through hundreds of thousands of worthless (and sometimes inappropriate) Web sites. Ask Mrs. Bates, Download Tritt Media Center Brochure, or visit http://cvl.cobbk12.org/ to find out more.

Use the attached book review template to write your review. Make sure you use the suggestions on the template, then use the spell check tool before you copy and paste your review into Destiny.  Remember no book reviews will be posted that are inappropriate or have spelling errors. School Library Catalog

You asked for it and Cobb County has responded. You can now access your school's library catalog from home. You can access it by going to Cobb Virtual Library and clicking on Destiny Library Catalog and choosing your school. You will be able to find out if Tritt has a book you are looking for, if it is available, or when it is due. You'll also be able to search by Accelerated Reader level so you can find all of the books that are available in your range. Don't forget, you can also write a review about your favorite book as long as you have created a Destiny account (see Mrs. Bates for more information). Check it out!!

About the Media Center

Welcome to the 2009-2010 Georgia Exemplary Library Media Program Award winning Tritt Media Center!

Exemplary Day 003

The Media Center is a special place for all the students and staff at Tritt.  There is hardly ever a time when something is not going on in the Media Center.  We have 1 full time media specialist, Joanne Bates (joanne.bates@cobbk12.org) and 1 full time parapro, Kathy Porter (katherine.porter@cobbk12.org).

The Tritt Elementary Media Center was awarded with the highest award for a media program in the state of Georgia, The Exemplary Library Media Program Award! Also, Mrs. Bates was the Cobb County Media Specialist of the Year for the 2011-2012 school year!

Classes come to the media center for storytime, library media lessons, research in the reference section or on the computers, and book checkout, not to mention the monthly trivia question.  The students also come to the media center for a quiet place to work on schoolwork or to read a book. One of the favorite places to read is in the "old" Viking ship.

Students in grades 1-5 may check out 2 books at a time.  Kindergarten students may check out 1 book. All books can be kept for 2 weeks.

We look forward to seeing all of the students' smiling faces as they begin to explore the world of information in the Tritt Media Center!
