Kleimon's Kommentary

Dear Wonderful Families of Room 403,

It's with much sadness that I write this final blog update for it truly was a wonderful year.  As I told the fifth graders on the last day, in the future, they might be my pilot, doctor, grandchildren's teachers, defending our country, business executives, bankers, lawyers, scientists, or even running my assisted living home, and I'll be quite fine with that!  They are all great Americans, and our future is sound in their hands.  Whenever I think of the year that my son went to Iraq, I'll always think of them.  Their letters, cards, and gifts to Ari and his fellow Soldiers will always bring a smile to my face. Enjoy every minute together, for all too quickly they will be off on their own.  I do hope that all of you (parents and students) will stop by for visits in the future.  It's always heartwarming to hear about each success.

Our CRCT individual scores have not arrived at our county office.  While apologies are offered for this inconvenience, please feel free to periodically check the Cobb County website for information as to when the hard copies may be picked up at Tritt.  Report cards should be mailed tomorrow while those wishing to pick up may come to Tritt on June 30th.  Enjoy a safe, relaxing summer filled with many Kodak moments.  Again, it was my pleasure to be a part of your lives for this past year.

With love,

"Mrs. Dr. Kleimon" (as the students often called me:)

At Home on the Range

Areas of study:

Reading - historical fiction about Westward Expansion.  The last week of school we will be reading a mystery.

English - review of parts of speech.  We are trying to identify all the parts of speech we have studied this year in sentences!

Math - probability activities and review of the year's content

Science - ecosystems

Social studies - Westward Expansion

Spelling and handwriting are continuous and ongoing.  Our last spelling test is on Tuesday, May 13. We will have our last Wordly Wise test over Unit 10 on Friday, May  16.  We only finished half of our Wordly Wise book.  Please keep these books for rainy day activities over the summer or waiting at the airport or long car trips.  The students have really benefited from this book! I can tell when they recognize the words we are studying in other texts.  I just need to go faster next year!!

Please note - our students will be helping with our kindergarten book buddies on their field day this Wednesday.  Please send in sun screen and a water bottle on Wednesday as well as Thursday.  Thanks to all our field day volunteers!!  Our lunch times for both days are different too.  In case you want to eat lunch with us on Thursday, it is at 12:20.

As you can see, we're not finished yet!!! Much to do in a short amount of time.  The biography book report projects were the best of the year!!

Finally, thank you for all of the flowers.  I do enjoy that tradition so very much because the arrangement reminds me of my students - each one special and unique.

Don't forget our Author's Tea/Breakfast on Thursday, May 22 at 7:20-8:10.

Many blessings for a happy and safe summer!

Kleimon's Commentary

Dear wonderful, fabulous families of Room 403,

I simply don't know how to thank you for the BEST Teacher Appreciation Week that anyone could ever imagine!  My flowers are so beautiful, the students' notes are priceless, the other thoughtful gifts are truly appreciated, BUT the box for my son, Ari, still brings tears to my eyes!  Like I told the kids, nothing could ever be better than that fabulous box, not even a trip around the world!!!  I will treasure your thoughtfulness for a lifetime.  Thank you, sincerely, thank you.

Our calendars are packed for the next couple of weeks.  Our Target/Wal*Mart  day has been switched to Tuesday instead of Thursday. Next week, our class will be field day helpers on Wednesday (remember to bring water bottles and sun screen) and then our field day is on Thursday.  One last test - Thursday afternoon, Chapter 9, Social Studies. Next Friday, we'll be touring Hightower in the morning.  The following week is packed with  all of the fifth grade activities.  Hopefully, everyone brought home his/her invitation to the pool party at my house, so now we'll such cross our fingers for sunny weather.

I will be attending Ms. Vinson's graduation celebration on Saturday!  In case you didn't hear the news, she accepted a 4th grade position in Fulton County.  Happy Mothers' Day to all of the fabulous moms of Room 403.  Enjoy your beautiful children!

With sincere appreciation,

Lana aka Mrs. Kleimon

P.S.  Please send in four stamps if you would like your report card, etc. mailed to your home at the end of the school year.

Tiger Squad News!!!

A huge Tiger Squad thank you goes out to Andrew Baker (Mrs. Benson's class) and his family for purchasing an ActivBoard for our family room (308). We are now equipped with a ceiling mounted LCD projector, sound system, and a wall mounted ActivBoard (no more wheeling everything to our classrooms). Needless to say we are all excited about  our 21st century classroom and the interactive, engaging lessons it makes possible. Again, thank you to the Baker family for their generous donation.

You're invited to the TigerSquad Author's Tea Thursday morning, May 22 from 7:20-8:00. Come enjoy the writings of our talented students.

Benson's Business

Well, we've survived the first day of testing and the students were wonderful! One hour of reading, a 10 min. break, and another hour is a long time to sit still! Tomorrow is Language/English, Fri. is math and next Mon. and Tues. are social studies and science. Help your child remember a snack tomorrow if they forgot today. Thank you to Connor for bringing us peppermints to get our brain juices flowing!

We have started our poetry writing and as always I'm amazed by their abilities and talents. Ask your child about the Doors of Poetry that they are making. They are exploring all the different doors that will lead them to writing wonderful poetry. We've also been on a poetry scavenger hunt looking for poems of different topics in many different books.  Today they wrote a "Hello to, Good-bye to" poems for Earth Week. You will get to read these in their poetry books at the Poetry Coffeehouse in May (following our author's tea).

In math we're working on multiplication and division of larger numbers. We'll do this for at least 2 more weeks to make sure they truly understand it. They are realizing how important it is for them to know their math facts. Please keep reviewing those with in the car, at dinner, etc.

Thanks!

Happy Spring!

Even during this slow to warm spring, we have had springtime in class!  We are growing plants, observing tadpoles, trying to hatch triops (ask your child!), and our butterfly larva will be here any day to add to our butterfly habitat.  Our second grade curriculum calls for us to learn about life cycles.  Each of these critters gives us a good opportunity to see a variety of developmental stages.

There are some upcoming events I want to call to everyone's attention:

1. Today your child brought home a notice concerning next Thursday's Relay for Life Carnival.

2. Our CRCT testing days are Wed., Thurs., and Fri. of next week.  The testing times are 8:15 to 10:30 each morning.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a good breakfast.  On time arrival is also critical.  Should anyone be ill, makeups are the following week.

3. Our field day is May 14 from 12:00 to 2:00.  Our class needs 5 or 6 volunteers for the afternoon.  Please email me if you are available to help.  The students should wear their field day t-shirt or green tie dye shirt, wear of bring sunscreen, and bring a water bottle.  It is always a fun time.

4.  Our Author's Tea is from 7:20 to 8:00 the morning of May 22.  We will have refreshments in the family room and books in each family classroom.

I hope this has everyone updated on what is happening at school!  Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Wiggins

Kleimon's Kommentary

Now the days are zooming by too quickly for this teacher! I am quite attached to my fabulous fifth graders.  In case they haven't shared the great news, everyone either met or exceeded the standards for the GA Writing Assessment!  Twenty students earned the "exceeded" and six earned the "met" standards.  To say that ALL of the Tigersquad teachers are proud of our writers is an understatement!

Next hurdle, the CRCT.  We're reviewing daily.  Please review the graded math activity coming home today.  Testing begins next Wednesday (Reading) to be followed by Thursday's Language Arts and Friday's Math portions.  CRCT continues the following Monday/Tuesday with Science and Social Studies.  As always, please send your students to school well rested, well fed, and punctually with two sharpened number two pencils.  We'll celebrate the conclusion of the CTCT with a farewell for Ms. Vinson.

A few more reminders:  High Tower Summer Camp Registrations are due NLT 25 April - NO EXCEPTIONS.  Picture money or returned pictures are now overdue, so please send in ASAP.  Our annual Relay for Life Carnival will be April 24th at 3:00 PM.

FYI - a Tritt teacher has been receiving emails from several fifth grade students (Room 403 included), and while nothing "bad" has been posted, it's probably something you might want to monitor.

Have a great weekend,

Lana

At Home on the Range

A few updates:

Mrs. Partow will accept Square One Art orders as late as tomorrow, Tuesday, April 1.  If you had wanted to order something, you still have a chance to do that.  Tomorrow is the absolute last day!

Your child should have a biography to read.  If your child has not selected a book by now, you may have to journey to the public library.  While we have many choices here at Tritt, your child may want to read about someone whose biography is not here.  The public library has a wonderful selection. The due date for this report is not until April 30.   With Spring Break coming and CRCT testing, I wanted my students to have plenty of advance notice.

Baseball Day is coming!!  Every year the 4th graders celebrate the opening of baseball season with a special day filled with activities that  are centered around baseball.    Baseball Day is Thursday, April 3.  Your child is welcome to wear a hat and a baseball shirt advertising their favorite team.  Please note that   this is also our Relay for Life Hat Day.  While your child has permission to wear a hat that day because of Baseball Day, it would still be wonderful if he/she would contribute a dollar towards the American Cancer Society.

Friday, April 4 is crazy hair day sponsored by Tritt's student council.

Spring Break is April 7-11.  Enjoy!!!

An added request - If anyone would like to contribute either a box of tissue or a roll of paper towels, the Family teachers would really appreciate it.  We need a few donations to make it to the end of the year.  Thank you!!
