Kleimon's Kommentary

Dear Wonderful Families of Room 403,

It's with much sadness that I write this final blog update for it truly was a wonderful year.  As I told the fifth graders on the last day, in the future, they might be my pilot, doctor, grandchildren's teachers, defending our country, business executives, bankers, lawyers, scientists, or even running my assisted living home, and I'll be quite fine with that!  They are all great Americans, and our future is sound in their hands.  Whenever I think of the year that my son went to Iraq, I'll always think of them.  Their letters, cards, and gifts to Ari and his fellow Soldiers will always bring a smile to my face. Enjoy every minute together, for all too quickly they will be off on their own.  I do hope that all of you (parents and students) will stop by for visits in the future.  It's always heartwarming to hear about each success.

Our CRCT individual scores have not arrived at our county office.  While apologies are offered for this inconvenience, please feel free to periodically check the Cobb County website for information as to when the hard copies may be picked up at Tritt.  Report cards should be mailed tomorrow while those wishing to pick up may come to Tritt on June 30th.  Enjoy a safe, relaxing summer filled with many Kodak moments.  Again, it was my pleasure to be a part of your lives for this past year.

With love,

"Mrs. Dr. Kleimon" (as the students often called me:)

Dear wonderful, fabulous families of Room 403,

I simply don't know how to thank you for the BEST Teacher Appreciation Week that anyone could ever imagine!  My flowers are so beautiful, the students' notes are priceless, the other thoughtful gifts are truly appreciated, BUT the box for my son, Ari, still brings tears to my eyes!  Like I told the kids, nothing could ever be better than that fabulous box, not even a trip around the world!!!  I will treasure your thoughtfulness for a lifetime.  Thank you, sincerely, thank you.

Our calendars are packed for the next couple of weeks.  Our Target/Wal*Mart  day has been switched to Tuesday instead of Thursday. Next week, our class will be field day helpers on Wednesday (remember to bring water bottles and sun screen) and then our field day is on Thursday.  One last test - Thursday afternoon, Chapter 9, Social Studies. Next Friday, we'll be touring Hightower in the morning.  The following week is packed with  all of the fifth grade activities.  Hopefully, everyone brought home his/her invitation to the pool party at my house, so now we'll such cross our fingers for sunny weather.

I will be attending Ms. Vinson's graduation celebration on Saturday!  In case you didn't hear the news, she accepted a 4th grade position in Fulton County.  Happy Mothers' Day to all of the fabulous moms of Room 403.  Enjoy your beautiful children!

With sincere appreciation,

Lana aka Mrs. Kleimon

P.S.  Please send in four stamps if you would like your report card, etc. mailed to your home at the end of the school year.

Now the days are zooming by too quickly for this teacher! I am quite attached to my fabulous fifth graders.  In case they haven't shared the great news, everyone either met or exceeded the standards for the GA Writing Assessment!  Twenty students earned the "exceeded" and six earned the "met" standards.  To say that ALL of the Tigersquad teachers are proud of our writers is an understatement!

Next hurdle, the CRCT.  We're reviewing daily.  Please review the graded math activity coming home today.  Testing begins next Wednesday (Reading) to be followed by Thursday's Language Arts and Friday's Math portions.  CRCT continues the following Monday/Tuesday with Science and Social Studies.  As always, please send your students to school well rested, well fed, and punctually with two sharpened number two pencils.  We'll celebrate the conclusion of the CTCT with a farewell for Ms. Vinson.

A few more reminders:  High Tower Summer Camp Registrations are due NLT 25 April - NO EXCEPTIONS.  Picture money or returned pictures are now overdue, so please send in ASAP.  Our annual Relay for Life Carnival will be April 24th at 3:00 PM.

FYI - a Tritt teacher has been receiving emails from several fifth grade students (Room 403 included), and while nothing "bad" has been posted, it's probably something you might want to monitor.

Have a great weekend,

Lana

One week until Spring Break, and I'm amazed at how quickly this year has passed.  This week will be no exception.  Reminder that Human Growth and Development will begin on Wednesday.  World War II Scrapbooks are due on Friday.  CRCT begins April 23 and ends on April 29th.  Please send your student to school punctually, well fed and well rested.  On line practice direction letters were sent home previously which reviews all five subject areas.

Correcction to our book "thank you":  Thanks to the Rittenberg, Haar, Boyd, Walton, Owen, Haag, and Howell families for the new books for our classroom library.

Please enjoy a relaxing Spring Break filled with many Kodak moments.

Smile,

Lana Kleimon

P.S.  You might want to check our blog for details about our upcoming Tigersquad novel study.

This week concludes our study of fractions and the United States during the twenties and early thirties. Lots of changes for next week, starting with Ms. Vinson's role reversal.  She will be teaching all day for the next two weeks.  Due to her GSU requirements, there will be no science during this time as she and the students explore World War II.  Part of the studies include a World War II scrapbook.  This scrapbook will contain a variety of activities that incorporate all subject areas.  Students will have an opportunity to complete "want to" activiities, as well as the "have to" requirements.

Thank you to the following families for donating new books for our classroom library:  Cohen, McCord, Owen, Walton, and Rittenberg.

For those of you celebrating the Easter holidays, please enjoy your beautiful families.  Happy Spring (officially today) to all!

Great news - as of today, our class has sixteen days of every student having every assignment!  We are trying to break a previous class' record of 27 days.  We're proud!  We're continuing our studies of fractions, World War I, Literature Circles (which are going very well), S.N.O.O.P.S. and persuasive writing.

Students are bringing home a class list for Valentines (optional).  Students may bring in Valentine boxes/bags next week, again optional.

Thanks to everyone for a marvelous Conference Week, as well as an awesome birthday.  January has been a busy month. We're continuing to work on fractions, persuasive writing, spelling patterns, U.S. history just before World War I, and S.N.O.O.P.S. during Tigersquad.  Speaking of which, hope to see you in the Tritt cafeteria this Friday, February 1st at 8:15 for the Great Pencil Race!  Also, this Friday several graded assigments are due:

Math - A.D.D. - may be checked at home with a calculator

Spelling Test - List was sent home on Monday

Science - Test and Menu Planner

Next week we'll begin our studies of World War I, and the following week we'll begin our new electricity science unit.  During math we'll learn how to add/subtract fractions with like/unlike denominators.  I'm available most mornings for help sessions, if needed.

Greetings from Room 403! Believe it or not we're already thinking about Driftwood.  The Driftwood Project will be a photo journal.  This assignment serves as a great momento from our field trip.  Students will need a disposable camera and steno pad/small notebook for the trip.  They should take two pictures from each class, as well as jot down some notes of what they were learning about or what they were doing at the time.  After the trip, the pictures should be assembled in a photo journal that inclues a three sentence caption under each picture.  This assignment will be due on December 11th.  Prior to Thanksgiving, students will have the opportunity to see examples of Driftwood Photo Journals and receive the rubric/directions. Additionally, I take many, many pictures while at Driftwood which I'll share with the students.

The Tigersquad Time Capsules were awesome!  We enjoyed sharing them today.

If your student will be absent the Monday/Tuesday prior to our Thanksgiving break, please ask them to make arrangements with me to take the Science and Social Studies tests before traveling.
