I will be taking a personal day today to celebrate my son, James' 6th birthday. If you have any transportation changes for your child today please make sure you write a note and tell him/her to give it to the substitute.

Wednesday, 4/18: First Grade Field Trip to the Atlanta Zoo (Wear your GREEN TIE-DYE T-SHIRT today. Also, if you signed up to bring a lunch from home please bring it in disposable bag with your name on it.)
*If you have volunteered to chaperone this trip a letter will be coming home soon to explain everything about our trip (what time and where to meet, what to bring, etc).
Thursday, 4/19: Parent Reader (Katie Rollins)
*Please remember to put Tuesday, May 15th on your calendar for our class Author's Tea. It will be from 7:45-8:35 am in our classroom. Students will share their own published books and then we will have a short breakfast. The students have been working very hard on these books. A big "thank you" to all of our parent volunteers that have offered to help type and bind them!!!
*Tritt Tiger Town will be Thursday, May 10th. The first graders are now earning money for great behavior inorder to participate in this fun day. Each first grade classroom will transform into a different room. Some examples are a game room, a spa, art room, etc. More information will be coming home soon. We will need some volunteers and donations for this event to take place :)
What We Are Learning About This Week:
Reading: Identify characters, setting, main idea, and details of fiction books.
Writing: Continue working on our "special books" for the Author's Tea on Tuesday, May 15th (7:45-8:35am). We will also learn how to use commas in a series.
Word Work: Review short and long vowels
Math: Assessment of creating and solving double digit addition and subtraction word problems. We will begin our unit on measurement. Students will measure the length of objects using standard and nonstandard measurent.
Content: Health-Compare and contrast accident prevention strategies in the home.
